SEC Growing?
« on: Jun 10, 2010, 04:20:09 PM »
Rumors today of Oklahoma and possibly Texas A&M joining the SEC. If true, women's basketball will take a huge leap forward as they are both top 20 (and usually top 10) teams.
GO CATS!!!

I brought this up long ago, the SEC seems to be way behind on this

My 4 picks to get the SEC to 16 are: Texas A&M, UNC, UVA, Maryland

All of these schools expand the SEC footprint - UL, UC, FSU, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech are already in the SEC footprint
All of these schools are in large population states - WVA may be close, but not many people live there
All of these schools are public state flagship institutions - Wake and Tulane are good schools, but not many alumni
All of these schools are tier 1 in academics - this should be self explanatory, but smart students are important

For Big 10 thinking you might read....

For SEC thinking you might read....

Both sites offer some real insight into deeper issues on what to look for in expansion discussions

The more spread out the teams are, the better for expansion.

Having a Florida State join the league hurts Florida recruiting, thus hurts the league. Adding a team like FSU is not ideal. Adding a team like UofL is not idea. The Texas stuff is ideal because a team like Florida will not have recruiting affected.
