About Lexington, Kentucky
Central Kentucky is known for three things: basketball, horses and some of the finest bourbon in the world. Lexington serves as the focal point for all three. Lexington was originally founded as McConnell Springs. Fayette County was named in honor of one of the biggest American Revolution supporters, Marquis de Lafyette. Lexington was named after the 1775 battle at Lexington, Massachusetts.

- Lexington was founded in 1775 and predates the state of Kentucky.
- Lexington is home to Transylvania University, the sixteenth oldest university in the country, and the first to be founded west of the Allegheny Mountains.
- Lexington is within 175 miles of five major US cities.
- Lexington is home to over 250,000 people. Over 635,000 live in Fayette County plus the surrounding area.
- Lexington is the second largest city in Kentucky.
- Lexington is home to Keeneland.
- Lexington's Jif plant produces more peanut butter than any other plant in the world.
- Lexington will be host for the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
- Some past residents of Lexington have included Thomas Hunt Morgan, Belle Brezing, Henry Clay, George Clooney, Mary Todd Lincold, J. Peterman, and Ashley Judd.
- Lexington, Kentucky has four sister cities: Deauville, France; County Kildare, Ireland; Shizunai, Japan; and Newmarket, England.
